Gil do Vigor expresses his frustration with a doctorate in the US: “Stress”

Gil do Vigor he “stressed and angry with your current PhD status. An economist who is studying for a doctorate in economics at the University of California, USA, faces difficulties because of the English language. “The thing is I know how to do it, I know how to respond, but in English. It’s very difficult — you obviously ponder over it bit by bit — but the test is so fast and extensive, you can’t think. It’s cruel to worry, because maybe you won’t get good grades (…). If the Portuguese language is already difficult…”, he argued.

He also reports the amount paid for the course, further showing his frustration: “I pay 8 grand per quarter”, it says. Its value is equivalent to approximately R$42,000.00.

Then, economists go to Twitter to show that even with the occasional negative outcome, one does not give up moving forward:

“Test results cannot speak louder than my evolution as a researcher and economist! Sometimes it is very difficult to remember our goals. And I’m not saying that getting an ‘A’ is bad, I got a few and I’m happy but it ends up affecting us and it seems that only ‘A’ signifies your learning and evolution, but it doesn’t. I will focus on reconnecting with my goals and moving on!”
