In an interview with the “Vênus” podcast, santisteban remembered the story when talking about the soap “Caras & Bocas”, which has a monkey among the protagonists. According to him, living this experience is “traumatic drug” which he earned while recording “Sandy & Junior”.
“When I was doing ‘Sandy & Junior,’ my character was Basílio, the nerd being made fun of. Today this character of mine would not be anywhere. I am a bully, the definition of a bully. […] There is an episode where a monkey runs away from the circus and ends up at school. And my character is watching the girls changing in the bathroom, hidden in the closet. OK, he looked to the side and the monkey was beside him, and the whole episode went like a cartoon, I ran and the monkey ran”he started.
“That’s a chimpanzee, a giant ape. The monkey came with a trainer which had scars. He has no teeth, stays chained and hot. It changes everything. He would only come after me to grab my leg and ‘peck’ (sic) it. I have to go.”
“I went to shoot a wardrobe scene. I turned my back and he saw me for the first time standing still. I turned around, he started punching my face. I’m trying to get out. It was a gigantic beast, a very strong monkey. He started ripping at my clothes, pulling at the tufts of hair, twirling me. he left me naked. I was ‘actually raped’ by a chimpanzee. In the end he tore my boots and I walked out in a panic.”
After the incident, the actor was rushed to the hospital. “I went to the hospital, I was underage. I am sixteen years old. Everyone’s worried, I haven’t been working for a while. And that’s in Campinas. I arrived at the hospital and people didn’t know what to do. I was quite traumatized.” finished.
